HC Global will program and handle all repairs. Pagers will cost approximately $400.00 and two options will be available for a 2 channel or 5 channel voice stored pager. Two pagers will be provided to each department in Westmoreland County.

President Greg Saunders called for a motion to suspend the meeting to eat. Eat we did! the menu included: Turkey, mashed potatoes, greenbeans, stuffing, noodles, cranberries, gravy and homemade cake dessert. The meal was outstanding and noteworthy as in the past years and the auxiliary should be commended.

The new Director of Westmoreland County's Department of Public Safety Michael Brooker and Deputy Director Brian Jones were introduced at the September Fire Chiefs meeting for the 2012-2013 session held in Seward VFD. Director Brooker presented the plan for the narrow banding project and pagers with tone and voice for all fire departments to become compliant with the new legislation. Director Brooker also discussed the SAFER grant application applied for with the help of his wife. Also he briefly mentioned the "baptism by fire" involving the June 1, 2012 tornado that touched down within the first month on the job. It was also noted that State Representative of the 59th District Mike Reese was present for remarks on the newest legislation and County Commissioners Chuck Anderson & Tyler Courtney provided support for the new leadership.

John Orzehowski provided 5 $100 Fire School Scholarships from Bill Hamilton that are to be used to help defray costs for those member departments to provide fire school attendance. These scholarships have een awarded for many years that have provided thousands of dollars to help educate firfighters in Westmoreland County

State Police Fire Marshals invited fire chiefs from Westmoreland County to the Youngwood Fire Department to provide an educational presentation on several items regarding fire marshal call outs and vehicle code concerns. The meeting was attended by about 30 fire department chiefs and assistants and several handouts were provided to help the chiefs and the fire marshals to efficiently work together to perform their duties. Also, the first edition of the Fire Chiefs Association of Westmoreland County Fire Chief's Handbook was distributed. Please call Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Kevin Karwatsky during work hours 724-832-5243 to receive the State Police provided documents provided to each chief. The Fire Chief's Handbook will be available at the Department of Public Safety building at 911 Public Safety Road, Greensburg PA 15601 or online here in the Information/FAQ tab.

It is with great pleasure that we announce the unanimous approval of Commissioner Tom Balya as an Honorary Member of the Fire Chief's Association of Westmoreland County. Past President Tom Freeman made a motion during the special announcements at the regular meeting to make Commissioner Tom Balya an Honorary member of the Association for his support of the Fire Service in Westmoreland County.
